Fresh ham roast with maple glaze

I love serving this fresh ham roast with maple glaze on special occasions. Not only is it a delicious meal that everyone enjoys, it is so simple and easy to make.

In fact, after I put it into the oven I can sit back and focus on my family, which is my favorite.

Some other favorite dinner recipes of mine are this ox tail soup and braised beef short ribs.

I love cooking simple, hearty meals for my family that keep them fueled all day- even for meals like holiday ham. What makes this meal even better is how easy it is.

A ham roast is perfect to throw in a roasting pan and let the ham cook all day until dinnertime. All you need to do is throw the ingredients in the pan and let it roast until an hour beforehand when you add a delicious maple glaze.

Fresh ham roast with maple glaze nutrition

A roasted, fresh ham is such a simple recipe that anyone can make. With some ham and a few seasonings, this is a meal that just about anyone can enjoy. Even if it doesn’t fit a certain diet (like the keto diet), this recipe is paleo-friendly so you are free to enjoy it!

Even if you are on the GAPs diet, for example, there are substitutions that can be used. In fact, to serve this recipe on the GAPs diet, all you need to do is use honey for the glaze instead of maple syrup.

What you need to make roasted ham with maple glaze

For this recipe, all you need is a quality roasting pan and a few seasonings like my favorite Baja Gold Sea Salt.

Aside from that, the maple glaze is made with pure maple syrup or honey- that’s how simple this recipe really is!

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Ensure the ham is thawed completely before cooking. I let my fresh ham roast thaw in the refrigerator for a few days before I want to cook it.
  2. Preheat oven to 325ºF and place ham into a roasting pan
  3. Add spices to the ham and cover
  4. Roast for 3.5 hours
  5. Drizzle syrup over the roast and place back in the oven uncovered for another hour or until the internal temperature reaches 170 degrees F. During this last hour, baste the ham every 15-20 minutes with the drippings on the bottom of the pan.
  6. Once it is ready, let the ham sit for 15 minutes before you slice and serve it.

Why do we avoid nitrates and nitrates?

Curing meat from a pig usually involves a process that involves nitrates and nitrites that my family tries to avoid. This is because the high heat can cause a chemical caused by nitrosamines, which increases the risk of cancer, according to the University of Wisconsin.

When I buy pork, I buy whole pork from friends of ours who raise all-natural, free-range pigs. We ask for the hams and bacon to come to us as fresh and uncured, so we can prepare them the way we like without additives.
