How to use toilet bombs

We like to keep a jar of these toilet bombs in the bathroom. Whenever the toilet needs some freshening up, it’s as easy as dropping a bomb.

I take a toilet bomb, put it in the toilet, and watch it start to fizz. Next, I grab the toilet brush and give the bowl a scrub. I flush, and it’s done! So easy.

How do you make a toilet bomb fizzy?

When these toilet bombs hit the water, it triggers a chemical reaction between the baking soda and citric acid. This fizzing actions helps to spread the cleaning power around the toilet bowl.

Why do toilet bombs have essential oils?

Essential oils are powerful tools when it comes to all natural, toxin free cleaning. They are the perfect addition to these toilet bombs, because they add cleaning power and a nice, fresh smell.

My favorite essential oils for cleaning are tea tree and lemon. I have more essential oil spray recipes for the home in this blog post here. I also have a recipe for an essential oil stain remover that uses lemon essential oil to remove laundry stains.

Tea tree essential oil has powerful antibacterial properties, and has such a fresh, clean, zesty scent.

Lemon essential oil is also great for getting rid of bacteria, and has is wonderful for loosening and scrubbing away grime. The smell is also very clean and fresh!

  1. FYI – The link for your silicone molds on Amazon is broken. I bought 2x2x1 size and doubled this recipe which made 9 bombs. I should have gone with a smaller mold, but I will just break them in half, one half for each toilet. Can you indicate in your recipe for future users the size of the mold and how many bombs per recipe? Thanks!

    • I haven’t found that to be the case, but I ran the mold through the dishwasher before using it for ice again 🙂
