It’s definitely the hardest thing I’ve ever done. Twice. And I’m getting ready to do it again! I’ll definitely have this postpartum healing spray recipe on hand for after my third baby is born.
Postpartum healing spray recipe
This postpartum healing spray recipe is essential for after giving birth. It’s cooling and soothing, helps promote quick healing, and helps prevent infections.
Having a baby is quite the feat. This is true no matter what your setting happened to be. I had my first two at home with a midwife, and I’m planning that again for this third baby.
I think that women should be free to choose where they want to give birth: hospital, home, or birth center. The most important thing is to have your baby where you feel most comfortable! For me, that’s at home. I love being able to have everything just how I want it, and to be able to sleep in my own bed afterwards.
Having my handmade skincare items and remedies close by, without having to remember to bring them along to a hospital or anywhere else, is an added bonus.

Natural postpartum care
In a recent blog post, I talked all about my top 10 natural pregnancy and postpartum essentials. You can read that post here. One of the things I consider a postpartum must have is this postpartum healing spray recipe.
The all natural ingredients in this spray are super cooling and soothing. They also promote fast healing, which is especially great if you happened to tear while giving birth. This postpartum healing spray recipe also helps to prevent infections.
You can spray this right on the sore area, and you can also use it to wet disposable pads and then freeze them. Both are helpful for soothing and healing and reducing swelling. And all of that makes you so much more comfortable during that postpartum healing time!
The essential oils I’ve chosen
There are two essential oils that I like to use in this postpartum healing spray recipe. The first on is Frankincense. Frankincense is well known for its wonderful healing properties. It is amazing at promoting fast skin repair.
Clary sage is the other essential oil I like to use. This one also helps with healing and preventing infection. Clary sage is also very helpful for helping to calm and balance hormones. Anyone who’s just had a baby knows how important that is!
Plant Therapy is my favorite brand of essentials oils. I love how high quality they are, while still being affordable.
The other ingredients
Aloe vera is another thing that is great for soothing and healing. It also helps maximize the cool feeling of this spray.
Witch hazel is soothing for skin as well. It is really nice for cooling and anti inflammatory properties also.
I like to keep this spray in the refrigerator and then pull it out just before using it. That really makes for a nice cooling, soothing spray.
