Come along while I share my morning self care routine, and my Wellnesse toothpaste review
My minimalist morning skincare routine and Wellnesse toothpaste review
You don’t have time for a lengthy natural skincare routine in the morning if you’re anything like me. Come along and see what I’m using, as I also share my Wellnesse toothpaste review.
My kids wake up early, and there’s not much time until they’re ready for breakfast. I wash my face with plain water and apply a toner to start my day, and that’s it for my morning skincare routine. I may throw on some mascara or my DIY Natural Lip Gloss later- or maybe it’s a no-makeup kind of day.
Next, I love oil pulling in the morning for a quick, gentle detox. If you’re not familiar with oil pulling, it’s an ancient oral hygiene practice that involves swishing oil in the mouth for about 15 to 20 minutes. I use coconut oil right out of the tub, and lately, I’ve been adding the Balanced Mouth Blend from Wellnesse to help make the oil taste better and freshen my breath.
After oil pulling, I brush my teeth. Did you know most toothpaste is made with harsh chemicals that can ruin the natural minerals from your teeth? I have a recipe for DIY Remineralizing Toothpaste, but when life gets busy, or I want to buy toothpaste, I always reach for the Wellnesse Whitening Toothpaste. This toothpaste is fluoride-free and made with good-for-you ingredients, like green tea, neem oil, and aloe vera.

My top picks from Wellnesse for natural, effective personal care
As much as I enjoy making DIY personal care products, I also love finding brands that align with my needs. Effective, clean-ingredient personal care can be super hard to find. While a handful of brands make eco-friendly personal hygiene products, I’ve found that many of them don’t work as well as they claim.
I’m super picky about what personal care products I buy for my family. Most of the products you see on store shelves are filled with toxic or harmful ingredients. Over time, these ingredients can wreak havoc on our health. A few years ago parabens were public enemy number one, but there are other harmful ingredients to avoid as well, which I’ll cover a bit later on.
As far as what I use for myself, I’ve had to overcome some personal health issues, so I’m really picky about what I’ll put on my skin. Wellnesse products are made from a handful of clean, non-toxic natural ingredients. They’re one of the only brands I’ve found that create non-toxic personal hygiene for my entire family.
My favorite Wellnesse nontoxic products
I regularly re-purchase a handful of Wellnesse products for myself and my family. I like grabbing the Aloe and Driftwood Mineral Deodorant for myself and my husband. This aluminum-free deodorant smells great and has no skin-irritating alcohols, parabens, or other questionable ingredients. Armpits are a lot more important than you might think! They’re home to over 20 lymph nodes and help regulate our body temperature.
Wellnesse toothpaste is another go-to in my household. It’s the best non-toxic toothpaste you can get if you’re not interested in making your own. I like the Fresh Mint Whitening Toothpaste because it’s clean, works really well, and doesn’t have ingredients like glycerin or fluoride. Wellnesse also has strawberry-flavored children’s toothpaste, which my kids love. I’m always on the hunt for fluoride-free toothpaste options for my family when I don’t have the time or energy to make our own.
Have you ever tried oil pulling?
While it may seem slightly “new” to Westerners, it’s actually an ancient Indian healthcare tradition that originates in Ayurvedic medicine. I’ve been oil-pulling for quite a few years and found the mouth is a great way to detox the body. I add the Peppermint Cinnamon Mouth Blend from Wellnesse to my coconut oil for oil-pulling. This blend helps regulate your oral microbiome to combat issues like breath and plaque. I’ll leave my DIY oil-pulling recipe below if you want to try it!
Wellnesse was started by a mom with a passion for creating safe personal care for kids and adults. I’ve tried many personal care brands, but Wellness is one of the most transparent companies I’ve encountered. They even include each ingredient’s EWG (Environmental Working Group) rating.
Try my DIY oil-pulling recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon of oil. Coconut oil is my oil of choice. Other options include avocado oil or olive oil.
- A few drops of the Balanced Mouth Blend
Instructions:
1. Get a large spoonful of your oil of choice, I use coconut oil. Add a few drops of essential oils or your favorite mouth blend (if needed).
2. Put the oil in your mouth and gently swish it around.
3. Swish the oil around your mouth for 15 to 20 minutes. Be sure not to swallow. The oil mixes with saliva and absorbs toxins and bacteria.
4. Spit the oil into a trash can after you finish swishing to avoid clogging your sink drain.
5. Brush your teeth as usual to remove any remaining bacteria.
Why I love oil pulling for a healthier mouth
I’ve personally noticed the benefits of oil pulling since I started doing it. I prefer to detox my mouth because it’s more gentle. Oil pulling helps eliminate the pesky harmful bacteria in the mouth that accumulate while we sleep. That’s why I prefer to do it in the morning before I eat or drink anything, although you can do it any time of the day.
If you’re new to oil pulling, it can take a little getting used to. Try oil pulling at least a few times per week to get the best results. When you first start, you can swish for about five minutes and gradually increase the duration until you reach 20 minutes. Also, remember that oil pulling complements traditional oral care, so don’t forget to brush and floss!
Answering your most common questions about choosing clean, non-toxic personal hygiene products
When it comes to selecting clean, non-toxic personal hygiene products, here are a few common questions people usually ask me.
Handmade vs. store-bought skincare – what’s the better option?
I love making my own skincare because I can control exactly what goes into the formula and tailor the ingredients to suit my skin type and concerns. That said, I understand not having the time to DIY everything. If you don’t have the time to make your own skincare, I recommend shopping from reputable brands that actually care what they put in their formulas.
Why are “clean” personal hygiene products important?
Our skin is our largest organ, and everything we use on it absorbs into our bloodstream. Traditional skincare (and makeup) is filled with toxic ingredients that are harmful for our bodies and the environment. Clean or all-natural personal hygiene products minimize exposure to potentially dangerous chemicals and are usually more environmentally friendly.
Do you have any other personal care product reviews?
I hope you enjoyed my Wellness brand review, and if you try out the products, I hope you love them as much as I do. I’ve tried and tested a LOT of brands. Some are winners, like Wellness, while others are flops. Let me know if there’s a specific brand you’d like me to review in the comments!
How can I tell if a product is non-toxic?
I recommend checking for certifications and labels like “organic,” “natural,” “non-toxic,” “paraben-free,” “sulfate-free,” or specific approvals from organizations like the Environmental Working Group (EWG). Also, always read the ingredient list. Steer clear of products with harmful chemicals and opt for those with transparent ingredient disclosures.
What ingredients to avoid in store-bought personal hygiene products
Not sure how to choose natural skincare products? Pick up any traditional tube of toothpaste at the grocery store or deodorant from your local drug store and look at the ingredients. You’ll probably see words like parabens, triclosan, polyethylene glycols (PEGs), and other words that are impossible to pronounce.
Some of the most commonly used ingredients you want to avoid include parabens (methyl, butyl, ethyl, propyl). Parabens are preservatives used in cosmetic products, including makeup and skincare, which can disrupt hormone function. I also always avoid buying anything with synthetic fragrances, which are usually marked as “fragrance” in the ingredients list. Synthetic scents are a mixture of various chemicals, some of which may be allergens or endocrine disruptors.
Another extremely common ingredient I never use on my skin is aluminum. Deodorant companies use aluminum compounds in their products because they help block your sweat ducts. These compounds then get absorbed through the skin and have been linked to several health issues.
If you or anyone in your family suffers from allergies, I highly recommend avoiding products with fragrances, unnatural preservatives, sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), and sodium laureth sulfate (SLES). These ingredients can irritate sensitive or allergy-prone skin.
One of the biggest reasons I’m so passionate about non-toxic family health products is that our skin is much more meaningful than we may think. Skin is a vital detox organ. Blocking our pores and rubbing chemicals all over our bodies can lead to long-term health issues.
